Peter Marcus

Creator. Leader. Change Maker.

Peter is an experienced communicator with a passion for culture and the arts, community, and civic engagement.

From his home in the UK's only island city, Peter has become a trusted voice for communications and messaging strategy, audience and customer engagement, and organisational development working with arts organisations, civic leaders, and campaigners to put sustainability at the heart of artistic creation, harnessing the power of creativity to build communities, inspire people, and create a better future.

Passionate about creating communities, creating change, and creating a better world.

Peter was born and raised in Portsmouth, a city which taught him the value and power of community. It was his love for the city he grew up in which inspired Peter to dedicate himself to volunteering for a number of community organisations throughout Portsmouth and which led to him being honoured with a Civic Award, presented by The Lord Mayor of Portsmouth in 2016.

Portsmouth provided a backdrop as Peter trained at The News, one of the south coast's leading newspapers, under the tutorship of Dr Jaron Murphy and the editorship of Mark Waldron. While at The News Peter was a member of the NCTJ (National Council for the Training of Journalists) Student Council.
A passion for improving the lives of people in the local community led to Peter's appointment as a governor at the Flying Bull Academy, a primary school in the heart of Buckland, and as one of the lead volunteers in Hampshire Scouts, the region's largest co-education youth charity, where he designed and managed a £50,000 grant programme aimed at giving young people life-changing opportunities and a grant programme to support Scout groups recover and rebuild following the Covid pandemic.

Peter is an accomplished writer, director, and designer for theatre, with a focus on pantomime and variety. He has a particular interest in making theatre more sustainably in response to the climate crisis. Peter is a judge for the UK Pantomime Association's annual UK Pantomime Awards.

    Theatre for Every Child

I know the first hand the life changing and life saving power of theatre, which is why I'm pleased to back UK Theatre and the Society of London Theatre's #TheatreForEveryChild campaign which calls upon the government to invest in the future of our world-leading art sector by ensuring every child has the chance to go to the theatre by the time they leave secondary school.

    Hands Off Portsmouth!

The Labour Government wants to strip Portsmouth, the UK's only island city, of its identity and independence - merging it with Gosport, Fareham, and Havant. Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves' plan will punish our city for our good financial footing by forcing us to pay off Hampshire's growing debt.
